Kiambu County Assembly speaker Hon. Stephen Ndichu has confirmed the death of Kahawa Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi who by the time of his demise was in India for a trip.

The MCA was found dead in his room after reportedly suffering a heart attack.

The sudden death was also confirmed by other colleagues to the late Omondi who expressed their shock, given the MCA had left the country in sound health.

Mr Cyrus was elected as Kahawa Wendani MCA on a Jubilee party ticket in the 2017 general polls after he had flunked in the previous elections.

Omondi had to ditch his ODM party to join Jubilee with which he won the Kahawa Wendani seat.

The MCA had at one point recalled how he would not be elected despite being popular among the electorate in his ward. The reason behind the failure in his previous attempt could be owed to the fact that ODM was not welcomed in Kiambu County, prompting him to re-strategize by joining Jubilee.

The MCA has been known for his unaltered passion for youth empowerment in his ward with the constituents from the ward taking him as their own, his tribal extraction notwithstanding.

He moved to the ward in 1994 after the death of his parents and became the first Luo to be elected in an environment considered to be a reserve of the Kikuyu community.
