The unexplained absence of Mt Kenya leaders in the Kibra campaigns did not go unnoticed.
Instead, Jubilee Kibra campaigns have been dominated by Langata MP Nixon Korir and a handful of MPs from the Western Kenya region. It was, as usual, expected that Mt Kenya leaders would accompany DP Ruto in the Kibra campaigns to drum up support for the alleged Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga. However, this was not the case.
Trouble in Paradise
Our sources who are insiders of Tangatanga movement reported that all is not well in the Tangatanga movement. This is discord in the movement that is drumming up support for DP Ruto to succeed President Uhuru in 2022 general elections.
The Mt Kenya leaders said that Kibra campaigns ‘ilikuwa na wenyewe’, and they felt undermined by their colleagues from the Rift Valley region who are a majority. They also intimated that even though they support DP Ruto’s presidential bid, the Rift Valley and Western counterparts treat them as outsiders due to trust issues.
In addition, there are reports of supremacy battles, they say their presence is only needed when there is need to attack DP’s opponents in Kieleweke faction but they are trusted enough to be included in making critical decisions.
“There is a group that hijacked the campaigns in Kibra and we were left out in the planning stages so we decided to let them run the show to the end,” said Ndindi Nyoro.
The MPs accused the Rift Valley colleagues of belittling them and being denied direct access to DP Ruto’s residence as well as Harambee Annex office. When Kibra campaigns began, MPs Kimani Ichung’wah and KJ were believed to be leading the Tangatanga group with Nixon Korir but down the campaign lane, things changed for worse and Kimani together with KJ were thrown under the bus.
Actually, there was a time KJ collided with Millicent Omanga over money spent transporting youths from Githurai to Kibra for the rallies.
John Kiarie accused Omanga of swindling some of Ruto’s money that was meant to pay the youths, she paid them 500 each while the budget allocated 800 per youth who stayed until the rally ended.
Unconnectedly, Kandara MP Alice Wahome’s Inua Mama Initiative has also disintegrated from infighting between the high headed Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika and the fierce Kandara MP. The two women leaders do not see eye to eye because Alice Wahome feels the Senator is using her closeness with the DP to undermine her though her senior.
The women too gave Kibra campaigns a cold shoulder. We wait and see whether the discord will cost DP Ruto this chance to prove himself to Nairobi electorate his worthiness to become the next Kenyan president
